Witness to her life

This installation is made using bark from my mother’s childhood environment.

My practice currently aims to see value in nature without needing a reason or justification. I do this by considering objects and nature through a maternal lens, in that I seek to develop a bond with seemingly banal natural objects.

Each piece of bark is nurtured and seen as precious. The process of applying gold leaf heightens my awareness of their innate qualities and cultivates an intimate relationship with each piece. This work challenges the idea of maternal responsibility being limited to sentient beings.
